--Of Gods And Mortals--

" I cannot believe in a God who wants to be praised all the time"- Nietzsche

Thats a funny way of putting it. Typical Nietzsche, the father of Nihilism.

Much has been written and said about God and His influences in the affairs of men. It is a topic that has raged on for centuries, every since the very first human-ape looked around his environment, got paranoid, and started fearing that someone, somewhere, had gotten a lead on him and created things already.

In a bid to appease his unknown adversary, he started showering praises on Him, and later used Him as a tool to control and tie a leash on the relentless savage force of the Mind. It was not soon before God became an excuse to control the lesser populace, to organize an empire, to wage war, and to attain absolute power. The degradation of religion started with the Church rule, as scholars started questioning the very basis of religion.

Humans have always had a history of being remarkably wrong all the time. We live on illusions that we ourselves create, we believe what we WANT ourselves to believe, and we never fail to maintain the smug smile of being impudently cocky all the time. What a man proves in his time, is always challenged or disproved by another, because the very basis of these discoveries are mere human interpretations of what constitutes this Universe.

Our egotism deters us from accepting the fact that we, indeed, know almost nothing at all about this Universe, one so vast and unfathomable, that we can only sit back in our chair, and fight over whose obscure 'theory' is more believably stupid. The same goes for God.

Man tries to explain, time and again, but always falters in the end. God is hope, because in Him lies our 'salvation', as history puts it. For a species that seldom repents, this is unattainable. Our only major flaw is that, we think a LOT about ourselves.

For a species surviving in a far corner of the endless Universe, we proclaim ourselves to be the highest form of life and intelligence. Going by our own crafted laws of Probability, the mere vastness of space points at the strong chances of life existing elsewhere in the Universe. We may never know. But we believe that we are such an important part of the Universe that, God has no other job than keeping an eye on our affairs and deeds and judging our actions along. Like I mentioned before, we believe what we 'choose' to believe. We choose to believe that whatever we do is right. We choose to believe our own laws and theories. We live in a world of changing moralities, we live in a world with our own half-baked definitions of success and failure.

We try our best to control the things around us, and are always unsuccessful at the end. We try to control Nature, but it always slips out of our grasp to hit back with unimaginable force. We try to control our own race, and the other creatures, but inevitably war breaks out, and there is no winner in war. For in war, the loser loses his face, and the winner loses his cause.

If there IS a God whose sole purpose of existence is keeping a tab on all of us, I feel really sorry for the dude. It must be the worst job anyone can ever get. But thats not Him. He's something that we will never fathom, he's something thats eluded us in the past, and always will in the future. Yeah, and Nihilism prevails.

"I don't know if God exists, but it would be better for his reputation if He didn't."- Renard

And last but not least, here's a laugh.

"God's last name is not Dammit, dude."- Unknown.

gr8..... as u knw.... even i hv similar views.... i don thnk,in india, der r many ppl who can appreciate neitzche and nihilism...

nothin can be considered spiritual in this world... everythin is materialistic and scientific...

its(god) jus an illusion... the human race created god as a thng/person to whom they can submit their sins and greivances... but l8r ppl strtd creatin religion and promoted them wit really funnny stories ...
whch is far beyond stupidity..

religion is meant for the unity and growth of ppl... and its the other way 'round here...
ppl and luv r spoilt.... due to the religion & caste crap...(u know wt i mean)....
but if ppl arent gonna improve because of the religion... then y its still persistent....???

gita, quarran and bible, one way r the other, says the same thng.....but if v talk abt communism/nihilism to these ppl....all v get is a "f*** off"..... nothin much to care abt..... even communism is a "saakadai" in india.... its tuf to bring out unity in our minds....

neway its a nice post.....its way too good....
hail nihilism.....

its just the tale of one of those gud things that turn bad over the course of time, man. giv a human any good thing, he wil twist it, corrupt it and make it so entirely different that in the end, its something unimaginably new.

CkisgoD said...

yeah, communism has been turned into something too despicable in india.

when i was a kid, and asked my dad who wer communists, he said "the people who protest when the govt tries to develop the state"

later i read Lenin n Marx, n realised what we hav in our country is not Communism, mere opportunism.

4 one thng..
if ppl cant create God completely, they cant deny Him completely either rite..?
taking 4 granted d fact dat u guys arent crazy bout nihilism just 4 d heck of it or jus coz u thnk its cool n all..i proceed..
u guys ve d right 2 beleive wat u do..probably a product of circumstances..
watever ppl say, wont u guys accept d "inexplainability" of Some thngs in dis universe dat calls 4 supernatural explanation..
like c'mon.. d greatest extent u can explain thngs with science is the big bang.. wat if its one of d least important thngs to have happened in the universe..if der was more before it..
wat i m tellin s..god aint the universe..he contains the universe..
u cant search 4 a mode 2 explain god..its futile..he created d creation.
science may b d answer 2 d question how.. but god s d answer 2 d question y..
yea its obvious..u can tell me how v wer born..not y v wer born..
chaos theory s an excuse for d supernaturality.. in the end dat theory 2 was proposed by some bloke of flesh n blood..
i ll ever have d arguement dat nihilism n communism 2 r human made.. as human made as "God"..

rover said...

nihilism probably had a point when neitzsche was alive..probably som1 imposed a religion on som1 els..n it turned out 2 b a means of torture.. as v saw d chozamandalam imposition of shaivism on vaishnavism n stuff..
but now v defntly r in a more civil world..
think if morality doesn exist as nihilism states..life wud b hell..
den waz d whole point in us strivin so bloody hard 2 earn ur bread without hurtin a soul..?
wat s true s dat even if der wer a supreme force, u r not obliged 2 worship him..
and dis showerin praises on God..no serious theist in his holy mind wud threaten u 2 do dat..ppl do it as a token of gratitude.. c'mon dogs do somthn like dat 2 u(showin gratitude)..but u exist dont u..?
if d cells inside u had a debate on wether humans existed or not, n u wer witness 2 it..u wud broaden ur views..probably..

@ Rover

Well put. Nobody can deny the existence of a higher power, as merely absence of proof is NOT proof of absence.

But have we not reduced religion to something so base that its very purpose of spreading harmony has severely been challenged?

"A religion that takes no account of practical affairs and does not help to solve them is no religion."

People fail to differentiate between Religion and God. If God is a part of this universe, then he must be in all its essence. Instead we divide ourselves in His name.

I am no atheist. I believe in a higher power, whom i can hardly reach.

CkisgoD said...

We live in a civil world?

A world where 25 women and 15 children are burnt alive in a railway coach?

A world where Mosques are destroyed and temples bombed, in acts of rage that simmer on?

A world where one woman is raped every three minutes? And a world where the guilty go scot-free?

A world where our money is squandered by the higher offices where under-qualified men chewing pan govern our country and take it to the dogs?

Where equality is a joke? And where millions of our brethren die hungry in poverty... where there is not an ounce of humanity?

Where millions were killed in the name of race by one madman, and nobody raised their voice?

What a beautiful world.

@ck yes we have reduced religion to something so baseless that its very purpose of spreading harmony has severely been challenged? so wt. dont we then have a moral responsibility to correct it.thr is no point in just pointing out if we cant corrrect it. then thr is not much of a difference between people who spoil it n people who remain blindfolded when it is being destroyed

DIPAK RAGAV said...

n nihilism is such a vague thing.wats the point in just pointing out at the problem.we have to get our hands dirty.we voted the same person to power twice after those riots. then regarding corruption are we proper?we pay 500 bucks to get our driving license irrespective if we can change a gear in bike.then we r sure to read in the news about some deadly accidents.we are not ready to take posts in civil services cos we r much happier working for MNC who offer a better pay package.nothing wrong in earning well but then we loose the moral responsibility to crib when we r not proper.we elect pan chewing persons to rule us.n to make things worse we r not ready to go out n exercise our franchise.the voter turn out hardly touches 60%.we r so lazy to go out n stand in a queue to poll.another excuse we give is there is no proper candidate to choose from.then y the hell u dont make a change rather than simply crib sitting on a couch watching some soap operas n porn stuff.

@ck..
dude..u r true bout d atrocities dat people r put through..
but u certainly have not thought bout how horrendous a world it was in earlier times..wen i talked of a civil world..i jus meant the improvement..
at this rate,in another 50 or 100 years all d violence wud dwindle..But its also true v cannot wait that far.. its only tactful effort dat mite accelerate peace..

atleast u agree with me that atheists(who i belv r d ones hu absolutely deny a higher power) r being narrow sighted..
n i totally agree wid u dat religion has spoiled d scene like nothing els..
again.. its not religion directly..
coz real religion s wat it has been defined as in d scriptures.. n its d same in every religion..
its actually very beautiful if u read into it..
lets thank ved vyas n d author of mahabharatha 4 givin us such great bed time tales of such high morals..a rich culture dat v cud bathe in..a never ending source of learning..
n think of all d action it has..seriously.. arjun..rama.. i wud say chuck superman n batman..
it defntly s d reason y our personal life s much better off dan any american's.
consider d bible..u cud never find a more beautiful advice on leading a life of love n peace.. its absolute non violence man.. n gandhi knew it all without even reading d bible..

d quran.. its an absolute preaching against arrogance.. d equality n d compassion it propogates can only b admired..

but thnk bout d pathetic followers des religions get.. in d name of upholdin deir cult, dey bring d worst name to it..
it was nice 2 hear u guys sayin "v ve spoiled it" "v ve done this n that to it." seems u take a moral responsibility to d misdeeds of ur brethren..

ok..so wat can v do bout it..
seriously deepak,
d solution s not 4 us 2 leave MNCs or join politics n all..
rmmbr, d most powerful guy here s not d politician but d civilian.. more like d public in general.. v r still der wer d leader of d public n public r different..
its d public attitude dat v need 2 change in order 2 effect a change.. n v shudn bcome a leader doing dat, else d public loses confidence in us.. dey ve had 2 many of d filthy leaders..

have an idea on how u wud want life 2 b..make others want it 2.. go propogate it..some attitude transactions..

n u talked bout d maut ka saudagar..
if 75% of a state's population elected him despite everything..n dat 2 a straight 3 times...dey arent arses u kno.. rmmbr dey r d ppl of d fastest developin state here..
u can listen 2 me..coz i study wid ppl 4m all over india, der r ppl 4m dat state 2..
its even d muslims, hu he raised d axe against, hu ve voted 4 him.. coz dey kno, he s d perfect guy hu can maintain peace..
if he cut some heads, he did it 4 a reason..did not abide by d law, but went 4 d dharm. u cud seriously relate it 2 d war pandavas had 2 wage 2 uphold dharm..
sometimes in history it becomes necessary 2 ensure d survival of some classes..
think..now bin laden ll thnk twice b4 he attack gujarati hindus in his place..he ll kno his own counterparts in gujarat ll bear d prick..
oh yea modi terrorised once..but so what, der hasn been another incident in 6 years..
in d name of maintaining peace, v ve 2 go thru threats every single day..u decide wich s better..

u guys may b atheists or nihilists..but by certificate, u guys r still hindus.. try goin 2 a muslim land..n den u ll kno y des religious organisations need 2 exist..
d guys in dat land ll make u n ur religion feel like shit..u wud regret being born d way u wer..
n in our own country, v enjoy lesser benefits dan deir ppl here..
seriously des thngs need 2 b thought bout.. der s no point in blindly applyin an equality theory 2 a one sided balance.. u need 2 supply weight 2 d lopsided basket..

DIPAK RAGAV said...

yea maybe he fought for dharma and his act has made the muslim fanatics think twice attacking hindus.but as a leader of state he cant stay blindfolded for 2days before swinging into action.the perpetrators of the violence(godhra incident) ad gone scott free and it was innocent muslims who wer targetted.innocent children n women wer tortured and killed.yea had he arrested people who brunt those coaches that wld have solved the prob.but there is no doubts that he has done a lot for the state and he was the best choice for them.end of the day it was innocent people that wer killed not muslims.

yea we need not leave mnc it is difficult i may think twice leavin an mnc agreed.but atleast we can follow the laws.y cant we join the political force and spread awareness?we can educate people. we dont even exercise our basic right to vote and we encourage illegal voting.so how will we get good leaders?the day our country records more than 90%voter turn out sure we cam have better leaders.im not saying overnight we r goin to get gandhi nehru kamraj but atleast we can get rid of some badly corrupt n highly in efficient leaders.

Leaders before us have torn this country into so many fragments that it becomes almost impossible to bring everyone under one roof, and promote democratic opinions.

Let me shed off my Nihilistic tendencies and practices, and see things as they are as a common man.

India is torn into so many cults, sects, tribes and societies that it would take a human an entire lifetime to index em.

We have been divided on the basis of our religion, we have been divided on the basis of majority and minority, we have been divided under the basis of our region, and we have been divided on the basis of our caste. We have been divided under the basis of economic inequality too.

There are millions of organisations around the country who solely think about the welfare of their own tribe or society and do not see themselves as a part of the larger country at all. They think narrowly, cuz every damn sect has an aim. They either want reservation, or they want a separate homeland.

People don not recognize themselves as an Indian first. This has been starkly visible even in the moderately literary strata of the society.

We brand ourselves as Tamils, Mallus, Goltis, Bongs and in the end of the day forget our national identity. It is a price that we have to pay, being such a diverse nation.

As a country, we have always been scared of experimenting. People want to do everything the good old way, with zero risks involved, and that is why India has never seen a revolution till date. People have adapted to living in a corrupt state, we are used to dirty roads, dusty buses, cracked buildings and a general contempt for the law. We feel at home in it, thats why anything remotely orderly, like a queue for instance, seems alien to us.

For political mileage, you need the support of a particular community, in this land torn into shreds. Cuz as I said before, different people want different things from the government, it is impossible to satisfy all their needs at one go. Nor can we make everyone happy.

This is a land where the parliament is divided into communists, fascists, and republicans, all thrown in a mix. Had we followed Gandhian ideology or any ONE specific political ideology, this situation may not have risen. We are so diverse, or have been so divided by our leaders over time, that there lies no definite solution.

Reminds me of a month back, was at home seeing Dasavatharam audio release on TV... wen ppl showered praises on Kamal hailing him:

"The only Tamizhan to have essayed ten roles in world cinema"

"A man who is a world icon for all Tamilians"

"Ulagathile ye mudhal murai puratchi padaitha tamizhan"

and such crap. Made me wanna shake the guy hard and say, "Dude, ur an Indian!"

@deepak
truly said, v dont acheive a meagre 50% voter turnout and how can we expect the popular demand to b a prudent one.. d active voter base in our country now is a misguided mob.. n dey r not helping d rest of d country in d least..
earlier i used to have d idea dat voters needed 2 have some credentials.. like u kno literacy or basic education n stuff..
but d true prerequisites for a responsible voter wud b patriotism, an uninfluenced mind and a basic aspiration for a good life.. am i asking for 2 much here..?

n d only reason i spoke 4 modi's actions was his totally unique approach on a terrorist attack..an attack anywhere is an acid test for d true efficiency of d governance.. n jus look at d way modi used some basic instincts.. d 1st reaction of any state wud ve been a futile persual of d culprits..some sketch releases and public notices.. but dey wud ve yielded nothing.. modi knew all dat was worthless.. trapping d culprits wud b doubtful.. but d fact dat dey got handcuffed 2 was another good luck.. in dat case 2, it was d RSS dat went several steps ahead n created an irreversible havoc.. plunderin houses n rapin women.. a total loss of ideals, morals and purpose..senselessness.. n hiw cud d muslims not react..? dey did all dat in turn 2.. yes several innocents paid 4 deir innocence..it easily cud ve been us 2..

modi has repented for dat sin like none else.. in d devils advocate on cnn ibn, karan thapar wud ve needed no more dan 3 questions 2 place modi at a loss for words.. modi was speechless, in tears and made a disgraceful exit..
godhra is one indelible black moark on modi, he ll never b able 2 make up 2 d people wich means he ll navaer have d courage to do it again(or 4 dat matter will anu other politician take such a goddamn risk..?)..
but... 4 d terrorists wudn take a chance wid him.. daz d point..

if only modi was made d prime minister of india now..think..it wud b rapid development for d whole country and less fears of gettin killed on ur way 2 work..
v talk bout young polititcians takin d fore(rahul gandhi..?...please..!)
i personally c modi as d impulsive throbbin young heart..
seriously..is it d age dat determines how young u are..? i wudn think so..

@ck
totally right man..
v indians wud b d funniest bunch of people in d world.. v r hypocrites, some tamilian acheives something somwer, v celebrate as if our own brother in law has done d feat.. well motivation and patriotism are necessary..but This is hypocrisy..
if u are in d army, dey wud tell u- ur first priority is ur country, den ur fellow soldiers, den ur family, and den urself..
but take d civianl reality.. d order is totally different.. first priority wud probably b urself or ur stomach or sex..
ur caste comes in top league..den ur religion, ur language and goes on.. by d time ur country figures in d list.... shit..!

dat protest d cinema actors put up 4 d "hogenekkal".. mannn..!
wat a publicity stunt..
it had d wholehearted support of our state government coz it took peoples eyes off d main problems.. d threat of fuel rise and inflation..
sarathkumar n vijaykanth wer all d more excited..a self formed mob whom dey cud politically address..
n still not a guy in d mob cud open eyes to reality.. thank god we have decently governing political parties, else dis mindless mob cud ve done us no good..
in dat event too, if u had heard actor jayaram(d panchathanthiram guy..)'s speech.. he said..
in any other country dey wud tell u..i am an american or i am an australian or so on..
its only in india dey tell u deir language caste n all..
v gotta rise above regionalism, daz wen our problems ll get solved.. my full support with u guys..
how nicely and bravely spoken..

CkisgoD said...

Literacy is our only hope. You have to create awareness to light the flame... Kalam was totally right. We gotta reduce the stupidity quotient, promote broad minded thinking and reward it suitably.

But it may work against the system, too. Given the human's lust for all thats gold, people are bound to settle someplace thats more developed.

Nothing can forcefully breed patriotism. U gotta be born that way. No other go.

orderliness and decency..
well indians ve got no scruples pissin on a wall.. dey dont even use it 2 find deir way or somthn.. jus a priority for personal comfort over public comfort..
dey r satisfied d way dey are.. n wudn bother even if u tried hammerin a point in..
in our hostel der s one such sample.. doesn care a hoot bout how others wud find his antics.. mi mentioning of his deeds wud render dis blog unworthy of public viewing.. well, he finds d use of flush unnecessary(i dunno y..probabaly coz som1 els ll do it 4 him or he wont use d same place again).. i tried embarassin him bout his deeds..nope, doesn budge.. he is a bihari..now u wud say.. oh bihari..no wonder..
actually bihar has some gr8 souls.. som morons like dis 1 wander around killin its hard earned name..

some basic human tendencies have remained dormant in our people.. coz for one thing, it gives dem an easy life (indians r one f d laziest, accept it).. and, dey haven seen how beautiful a land wud b, if some human tendencies were controlled or altered. i ve beleived that makin dem c a better environment wud bring a change..

visualise our traffic signals for instance.. cars n buses stand head to butt with space between them enough for a fly to survive..and still a cyclist whizzes thru it.. well u r supposed to maintain a few metres of clearance n all.. but no..dat few metres makes d difference of a handful of seconds in reaching ur destination.. n look at d competition 4 dat gap 2..worse dan d JEE..!

if u placed stylish pics of cars standin orderly in an american traffic signal along our traffic signals, hu knows u wud probably instill a desire in d driver to maintain that kind of a decent picture too..

its only an exposure to an outside environment(preferrably better) that inspires a habitant to better his own environment..
in a communist and protective world this wudn b possible..

I think u ppl extended this topic waaay to much bringing in politics leaders my opinion well yes there have been lots of castes and religion ppl follow it strictly even in the 21st century they follow it with fierce loyalty so we really need to think if the religious beliefs still runs this strong surely something an unknown power we can neither comprehend nor witness started everything each man believed some thing started religion gathered followers soon the whole world is sub divided into religions and castes to those who truly stick to their religion and adhere to the principle of their almighty i got nothing to say.To those who are more open minded i would have to say GOD is basically a power which governs the whole universe maybe the laws of physics maybe the aura around the galaxies anything but it is completely preposterous to believe there is no higher power, only 97%of the whole population of the world call it :GOD the rest believe it to be some supernatural intelligence and for the rest of the ignorant or rather arrogant lot who claim no god nor any form of higher power exsists, well all i can say is they are only kidding themselves.I guess no matter how much we discuss this topic we ll be back to the same spot where the ppl who believe in a definite god will continue to do so and the rest of them will merely acknowledge the presence of the "Almighty" as an unknown force of the universe. The only conclusion to this ever ending debate is there is no conlusion either u beleive in god or u dont !!.But one day i reckon when judgement day knocks on our door i guess we will get the answers we all wonder.

hey. gr8 post. gr8 ideas n a gr8 discussions here. "Humans have always had a history of being remarkably wrong all the time. " v.true. We try to understand everyhting and when it fails, we claim its useless and there is no reason for its being. Nihilism is also one such. Everything that we have learnt can be disputed, debated, proved wrong. There is no one to judge this n claim anything is right or wrong. Every single person believes what he wants to. No one can claim it to be false. Just that most of us are merely easily led, fooled, coerced into believing a thoery imposed by a higher order. Such is the rise of religious oppressions, wars, destruction. Its all coz of human folly and idiocy. The abstract entity of God is nothing to do with the fact at all. Every evlotuion has to end. Maybe ours will in these ways. I dont see why people get heated on topics as Nihilism or athiesm. As long as we maintain our common sense as not to hurt others we live. Alas it is not to be. Every one is stupid. That is our end.

God would be laughin his butt off...
